KATHMANDU, April 1, 2026 – The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a significant upward adjustment in aviation fuel prices for both domestic and international sectors, effective Tuesday. The move, described as a response to shifting international market dynamics, has seen prices nearly double in a single day.
According to a press release issued by the Corporation on Tuesday (17 Chaitra), the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) for domestic flights has been hiked from the previous rate of Rs 127 per liter to a staggering Rs 251 per liter.
Breakdown of International Price Adjustments
The adjustment for international flights has seen similar drastic increases across major airports in Nepal. The prices are now set as follows:
| Location | Previous Rate (per KL) New Rate (per KL)
Kathmandu (TIA) | USD 966 | USD 1,785 |
Pokhara (PRIA) | USD 801 | USD 1,732 |
Bhairahawa (GBIA) | USD 789 | USD 1,716 |
Impact on the Aviation Sector
This unprecedented price hike is expected to have an immediate and severe impact on airfare. Aviation experts suggest that domestic airlines will likely implement a fuel surcharge increase within the next 24 hours to offset the rising operational costs.
For international carriers, the surge in costs at Nepal's primary gateways—Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Bhairahawa—may lead to revised ticketing structures for travelers entering and leaving the country.
Note: The Corporation stated that these adjustments were necessary due to the rising cost of petroleum products in the international market and the new price list received from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
