OSHKOSH, Wis. — A potential disaster was averted at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) on Sunday after an air traffic controller intervened when two aircraft were observed attempting to land from opposite directions on the same active runway.

The incident occurred on July 26, 2026, during the peak arrival window for the annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture fly-in—widely recognized as one of the world's busiest aviation events.

Rapid Intervention on the Frequency

According to flight telemetry and ground logs, two general aviation aircraft—identified as a Cessna 172 Skyhawk (registration N1373B) and a Piper PA-28 Cherokee (registration N2105L)—approached the runway complex simultaneously from opposing arrival paths.
