A Colombian military transport aircraft has crashed shortly after takeoff in southern Colombia, leaving dozens of people feared dead and several others injured, authorities have confirmed.

The aircraft, identified as a Lockheed C-130 Hercules, was operated by the Colombian Air Force and was carrying more than 100 personnel at the time of the accident. The crash occurred on 23 March 2026 in the Putumayo region, an area characterized by dense jungle terrain.

 

Officials reported that the aircraft went down during the initial climb phase, just minutes after departure. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the crash site, but rescue operations have been hindered by difficult access and challenging environmental conditions.

 

Preliminary information suggests that dozens of occupants have been killed, while a number of survivors were rescued and transported to nearby hospitals. Several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
