A nine-seater aircraft operated by IndiaOne Air made an emergency crash-landing near Jalda, around 10–20 kilometres from Rourkela in Odisha, on Saturday afternoon after developing a technical snag mid-air. Six people, including passengers and crew members, sustained minor injuries in the incident, officials said.
The aircraft, a Cessna Grand Caravan EX bearing registration VT-KSS, was operating a scheduled flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. According to preliminary information, the aircraft encountered a technical issue shortly before reaching its destination, prompting the pilot to issue a Mayday distress call to air traffic control.
Following the emergency alert, the pilot carried out a controlled forced landing in an open field at around 1:20 pm IST, avoiding nearby habitations and preventing a major mishap. At the time of the incident, the aircraft was carrying four passengers and two crew members.
All six occupants were safely evacuated and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical examination. Hospital authorities confirmed that the injuries were not serious, and all those onboard are in stable condition.
Confirming the incident, Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said the situation was under control and there was no major damage or loss of life. “The aircraft had to make an emergency landing due to a technical problem. All passengers and crew are safe. This is not a major accident,” the minister stated.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident, and a detailed report has been sought from the airline. Senior state officials are expected to visit the crash-landing site to assess the situation and coordinate further action.
Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the technical snag that led to the forced landing.
IndiaOne Air, a Bhubaneswar-based Scheduled Commuter Operator, has been operating regional flights within Odisha and neighbouring states since 2022, primarily aimed at improving air connectivity under regional aviation initiatives.
Authorities have secured the aircraft at the landing site, and further movement will depend on the findings of the technical and safety inspections.
