Kathmandu, March 1, 2026 — Rising military tensions in the Middle East have forced airlines to cancel a large number of flights from Nepal to Gulf countries, affecting more than 4,000 passengers.

 

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), a total of 23 international flights scheduled for Saturday and Sunday were cancelled due to escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

 

Flight Disruptions and Impact

Officials said cancellations were a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety and avoid flying through volatile airspace. Most affected flights were operated by carriers including Air Arabia, FlyDubai, Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways, and Jazeera Airways.

On Saturday, 18 flights were cancelled, followed by 5 additional cancellations on Sunday, leaving thousands of travelers stranded.

Some flights from the Gulf region were rerouted to avoid conflict zones, while others were postponed indefinitely.

Tribhuvan International Airport authorities worked with airlines to provide accommodations, rebooking options, and refunds to affected passengers.
