Kathmandu — Air India on Thursday announced it will acquire 30 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, reinforcing the Tata Group’s aggressive strategy to modernize the former national carrier and rebuild its global presence. With this latest deal, the airline’s total Boeing aircraft orders have climbed to 250, reflecting one of the most ambitious fleet expansion plans in the global aviation industry.

Since Tata Group took over Air India in 2022, the airline has focused on large-scale fleet renewal, cabin upgrades and operational reforms aimed at restoring its reputation as a world-class full-service carrier. Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson said the new aircraft will strengthen connectivity and support long-term growth across domestic and international routes.

The order is also a major boost for Boeing, which recently reported its first annual profit since 2018. The US planemaker posted a $1.9 billion profit in 2025, marking a dramatic turnaround from a $11.9 billion loss in 2024, as improved quality control and higher production rates helped stabilize its recovery.
