Nepal has showcased its tourism potential at FITUR 2026, one of Europe’s most prestigious international travel fairs, held in Madrid from 21 to 25 January.

The country’s participation aimed to strengthen Nepal’s presence in the international tourism market, particularly in Western Europe, and to expand partnerships and business opportunities, according to tourism stakeholders.

The 46th edition of FITUR brought together nearly 10,000 companies from 61 countries, representing a five percent increase in participation compared to last year. Nepal was represented through a joint initiative of the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, with 30 Nepali travel, tour and tourism enterprises taking part.

Organisers said Nepal’s pavilion played a strategic role in positioning the country as a diverse and attractive tourism destination for European travellers. Cultural performances held during the final two days of the event emerged as a major highlight of the fair.

Traditional Nepali dance, music and songs drew large crowds, offering visitors a glimpse into the country’s rich cultural heritage. Artists from Malaysia also joined the performances, adding to the programme’s vibrancy and international appeal.

Officials believe Nepal’s active engagement at FITUR 2026 has further enhanced the country’s image on the global tourism stage and opened new avenues for international collaboration and trade.
