Dubai, Jan 16, 2026 — Electric air taxis developed by US-based Joby Aviation are set to begin commercial operations in Dubai by the end of 2026, according to Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Chairman Mattar Al Tayer.
The announcement marks a significant step in Dubai’s plan to integrate advanced air mobility into its public transport network. Joby Aviation successfully conducted the first test flight of its fully electric air taxi in the emirate in June 2025.
The Joby Aerial Taxi, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, can travel up to 160 kilometres and reach speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour. The aircraft produces zero operating emissions and has been designed to operate quietly, making it suitable for use in dense urban areas.
In early 2024, Joby signed an agreement with Dubai’s RTA granting the company exclusive rights to operate aerial taxi services in the city for six years. The service is expected to offer faster and environmentally friendly travel options, easing congestion on Dubai’s roads.
Dubai continues to position itself as a global leader in smart and sustainable transportation by adopting next-generation mobility solutions.
